Every one of us can reduce our personal contribution to climate change. Here are a few ideas to get you started. If you have any of your own please send them to liftthelabel@tearfund.org and we'll add them to the list.

In the kitchen

- Don’t overfill your kettle

- Wash your clothes at 40C

- Defrost your freezer regularly

- Clear limescale from kettles/washing machines

- Only buy electrical appliances that have an 'A' rating

Cut your heating bill

- Insulate your house

- Double glaze your windows

- Put silver foil behind your radiators

- Put draft excluders on front and back doors

- Turn heating down by 1C

- Put thermostats on radiators

Around the house

- Fit energy saving light bulbs

- Have a free energy audit of your home

- Switch to Good Energy (please quote UE38)

- Switch off lights

- Don’t leave your phone charger plugged in

- Shower instead of taking a bath

- Install a solar panel

Out and about
