tearfund's hiv vision

Tearfund believes that by 2015 the spread of HIV will be stopped and its impact reversed in the communities where Tearfund and our partners work.

This vision rests on the potential of the local church, significant in the lives of hundreds of millions, especially in many parts of Africa that are most affected by HIV.  The local church is already responding to the pandemic, but is yet to reach its full potential.

To work this vision out we’re focussing on 5 key areas:

  1. Prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV (go deeper)
  2. Easing the impact for people living with or affected by HIV, focussing on women and children (go deeper)
  3. Promoting the importance of access to treatment (go deeper)
  4. Ending the stigma and discrimination that surrounds people living with or affected by HIV
  5. Promoting behaviour change among children and young people
