urgent climate change action

One youth group's effort writing to their MP...will you do the same?

URGENT ACTION!!! At the beginning of June, Parliament agreed that the Climate Change Bill should get a second reading, a chance for further debate and fine tuning the first law of its kind in the world.

This is a critical time.  Our MPs have a last chance to push for a Bill that ensures that the UK plays its part in keeping global temperature rise below 2°C.

We've been asking for three ammendments to be made to the Climate Change Bill and the Government has agreed to one of them.  The Bill now includes targets that will be reviewed each year, we've been calling them annual milestones.  This is great news, but we're still calling for a stronger limit on the UK's emissions and the inclusion of our share of aviation and shipping emissions.

Join a concerted effort to get these last two ammendments made before the Bill is voted into law.

Please buy an energy saving lightbulb, open up the box it came in and then write a letter on it to your MP.  We've pre-written a letter below if you want to copy it for guidance.

Once you've stuffed the box in an envelope send it off to the following address:

Your MP, House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA

When you've done this action take the energy saving lightbulb and replace an energy hungry one around the house with it...then click here to let us know you've done it!

Dear (Your MP's Name) MP,

I’m concerned that the Climate Change Bill won’t be tough enough to ensure the UK plays its part in keeping global temperature rise below two degrees.

Climate change is hitting the poorest people hardest and they contribute least to our changing climate. Our lifestyles and decisions have an impact on the lives of others so I ask that you press for the following to be included in the Climate Change Bill.

• A target of 80% emissions cuts by 2050
• The UK’s share of international aviation and shipping emissions to be included in targets

I’m making changes in my lifestyle to reduce my carbon emissions; will you support these amendments and sign EDM736?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
