On the 24th September the UN are holding a major meeting looking at the MDGs progress and what needs to be done to achieve them by 2015. Douglas Alexander, the UK’s Secretary of State for the Department for International Development (DfID) is going to be going, and we’d like him to remember to talk about toilets while he’s there.
Water and sanitation are both focussed on in the Millennium Development Goals, but the sanitation target is off track globally, and the water target is off track in a number of places, sub-Saharan Africa in particular. Unless this issue is prioritised now our government’s commitments simply will not be met, the sanitation target would be met in the early 2100’s if improvement carries on at the same rate. We need to do something and we need to do it now, will you join us?
The action is simple. Use your mobile to take a snap of the toilet nearest to you now then send it as a picture message to 07866753967. We’ll send them onto Douglas before he goes as a reminder.
