jargon buster - early day motion (edm)

An Early Day Motion, or EDM for short, is a request for a debate on a particular topic.  It's made by MPs and can be requesting a debate on ANY topic, it could be something trivial, something funny, something that praises the actions of someone else or it could be something really serious.

EDM 178 was tabled just after the 2005 general election and called for a UK Climate Change Bill, 412 of the 646 MPs signed this EDM, and now we have a Climate Change Bill working its way through into Law.

We're currently asking people to ask their MPs to sign EDM 736 to show their commitment for a strong Climate Change Bill.
