Ever heard of Gordon Brown, David Cameron or Nick Clegg?  They’re the leaders of the main political parties, but they’re also Members of Parliament (MPs).  Under those three men are 643 other MPs, one of which will be yours!

Your MP is responsible for representing your views, interests and concerns in the House of Commons.  They are able to challenge and question the Government about any issue and they are involved in discussing and proposing new laws.  But don't forget MPs are just normal people too.

An MP will split their work-time in three ways:

  1. Working in Parliament for their constituents
  2. Working for their political party
  3. Working in their constituency

If an MP is part of the Government they may have additional responsibilities with a role that looks after a specific area of interest for example, Health, International Development or Justice.

It’s really easy to find out who your MP is.
Visit www.locata.co.uk/commons and whack your postcode into the box

Once you’ve got their name you can Google them, find their website and see what they’re up to.  Or why not check to see if they’re on Facebook, most MPs are.

Now you know who your MP is and how to get in touch with them what can you do?

There’s a choice here, get ready:
