People are needlessly dying in our world today. That's a statement you will have heard frequently but say it aloud, it's shocking. People are NEEDLESSLY dying in our world today.
As shocking as that situation is, it is also real, but there is hope. The word "needlessly" shows that there is an alternative, these faceless people we simply hear about don't need to be dying...together we can change that statement; together we can change the world.
The words advocacy and campaigning can sometimes sound confusing, but really they're very simple. Advocacy simply means trying to be the voice for those who cannot be heard, this often means the poor. Proverbs 31 tells us to "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those who are perishing." Advocacy is about using our voices to let people know what we thing. When we use our voices we can change the opinions of our friends and family, and those people in powerful positions who can change the world as we know it.
When advocacy gets practical you start campaigning, practical activities help engage and focus people to the issues that you care about. Campaigning can feel like really hard work and sometimes it's lonely too, but being part of a larger group of people can help you stay excited and motivated.
Get involved with a network of young people and students who care about justice, to work towards another world, a world where we no longer need to speak for those who can't be heard, because they can speak with their own voices.
Is this a world you dream about? Let's get started...
