Think about it – if your cash can buy a miracle why would you spend it on anything else? Just £15 is enough to pay for schooling, provide nutritious food and provide access to medical help for a child-headed households.  That’s all: £15.

There are more Christians in the world than there are members of any other world religion. Rich and poor, in cities and dusty plains, the world is littered with local churches, many of them passionate about fixing the problems that poverty brings. You and I can’t go and cook a meal for a child-headed household, but we can provide money for those that can. We can stand shoulder to shoulder.

The Bible has plenty to say about poverty. Sadly, we find it easy to forget too many of these words. We can give in to the temptation to live just for us, chasing after whatever treats we hope will make us happy.

But the Bible tells a different story: it talks about family – of people united, supportive and kind. This family is generous and loving, it doesn’t leave people to live in poverty, loneliness or despair. It stands shoulder to shoulder with others who are grieving, hungry or ill. It’s the most amazing family you could ever imagine, and it’s not made up of those joined by flesh and blood or sharing a single surname. This family is called the Church.

So why should we care? Because we need to. Because we can. Because we must. Because God does.

Read on and you’ll find out about how remarkable local churches are changing lives for the better – supporting child-headed households, no matter what the personal cost.
