the world can't wait

Join the Tearfund Youth Team in London…the world can’t wait!

Your Youth Team
Your Youth Team

We will be on the banks of the Thames on Saturday 2nd June to raise our voices against poverty. Meet us there, starting with a service at 11am in Westminster Central Hall to dedicate the day to God, with worship led by Tim Hughes.

What’s it all about?

In the year 2000, the governments of the world made eight promises, ranging from eradicating extreme poverty, to stopping the spread of HIV and AIDS, to providing primary education to all children by 2015. These promises are known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

These inspiring promises were made to make sure the fight against poverty continued into the 21st century and the needs of the poorest of our world were not forgotten. But sadly, these goals haven’t been acted on urgently enough.

2007 is halftime to completing the MDGs but the danger is that none of these goals will be met. The world is already way off target on many of them.

Today, 5000 children die everyday because they have to drink from unsafe water supplies, over 5 million people who live with HIV and AIDS cannot get hold of the medicines they need and 100 million children cannot go to school. Even as you are reading this people are dying needlessly.

YOU can make a difference!
YOU can make a difference!
The world can’t wait and YOU can make a difference.

Tony Blair will go to this year’s G8 (the meeting where the leaders of the richest eight countries come together once a year) in June. We want him to leave with a clear message in his ears, “Keep your promises, and take decisive action on poverty!” We need you to join in and give him that message!

We’re really excited about the opportunity to raise our voices against injustice. There’s a whole day of events planned, but make sure you book yourself a ticket for the Blow the Whistle Worship Service in the morning to make sure you get a seat!

What’s happening when?

From 11.00am: Blow the whistle Worship Service
