introduction to lift the label

Take a moment to think about what you've eaten today. Then check out the clothes you've got on. To finish, add up the money you've spent over the past 24 hours.

Done that? Now add up how these choices have affected the poor. Feeling slightly lost? Let us take over...

Lift the Label, Tearfund's ethical lifestyle campaign, is here to help us think about how our consumer choices in the areas of food, fashion and finance impact the lives of some of the poorest people in the world.

Our breakfast may have travelled over 5000 miles to reach us this morning, what do we know about the hands that plucked the coffee beans or tended the orange groves?

Where were our clothes made? The care label may tell us. A great holiday destination maybe, but what do we know about the lives of the people behind these products?

What about our money? How can we best honour God and bless the poor through our financial decisions?

It doesn't stop there - Lift the Label not only challenges us to live lives that reflect God's priorities as we shop, but also challenge the unjust structures that keep our global neighbours in poverty.

‘Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves... defend the rights of the poor and needy’ (Proverbs 31)

Thousands of you have been calling on your schools and universities to switch to Fairtrade, challenging high street shops to join the Ethical Trading Initiative and asking your bank about the ethical policies.

Our prayer is that this site resources you to understand God's heart for justice and inspires you to respond through simple lifestyle and campaign actions.

If you have any comments, questions or simply want to tell us what you've been up to please don't hesitate to email us at liftthelabel@tearfund.org
