Fombe’s not big – the population is no more than a couple of hundred – but as a village it stands out for many reasons, and one of them is the toilets. Over 50 per cent of villagers in Fombe have them. In a world where 2.6 billion people don’t have access to any type of improved toilets and clean water, where two million people die every year as a result of the diseases which thrive where sanitation isn’t good enough - most of them are children less than five years of age – having so many toilets in Fombe is a life saver.
It’s Sophia that Fombe has to thank. She’s a dynamic force for change, a radical disciple putting her faith into action in remarkable ways. In other words, because of the way she chooses to live out her belief in Christ lives have been saved. Remind you of anyone? Isn’t this exactly what we as groups of Christians could be like: dynamic and radical, making change and saving lives? It might just take something as simple as raising money to build toilets.
