go in 2009

This year as ever, teams will be travelling to spend two weeks with one Tearfund partner. In you two weeks abroad you will have the opportunity to gain an insight into the work of a Tearfund partner, as well as doing some practical work.

Below you'll find information on the projects and the programme as a whole. Please pay special attention to the dates of all the events as you must attend all pre-trip training to travel.

To apply, please download and fill out the forms on the application documents page.

2009 trip cost: £1000 plus flight cost*

This figure has had to increase due to budgets being received for the costs of the trip from our partners that reflect the current rise in fuel, food and accommodation costs. Visa charges have also risen.

*Please note that all costs are subject to change; this is due to the variable nature of overseas travel expenses.

This is inclusive of visas, accommodation, food and travel costs in the country you travel to, training and orientation, insurance, medical clearance, medical supplies and the administration and support costs before, during and after your trip.

[This cost does not include any immunisations you may need for your trip or the cost of travel to your orientation.]

Application Deadline: 30th November 2008 for teams departing in EarlyApril 2009.

Trip dates: Spring 2009 teams provisionally set for 4th-18th April 2009 subject to confirmation and partner programme agreement.

CRB: All applicants will be required to have a CRB check. Click here to read more about this.

India Emmanuel Hospital Association

This year we are running a prayer trip to EHA India. This team will be aimed at Adults aged 25+. There will be a 2 week student prayer team in early September.

Whilst prayer is central to all Transform teams, this trip will focus on your team being a hub of prayer; willing God’s power to move in and change the communities you visit. Seeking to more wholly integrate prayer into the life of a Transform team, the essence of this prayer trip is that you see and use your whole day as one prayer space. This trip is about offering the gift of prayer and bringing the power of God’s love into the communities you visit and the lives of those you interact with.

Please note that all teams are subject to gaining enough applications to make them viable; also, if a partner's circumstances change the team may be cancelled.

the programme

The main aspect of the programme is the two weeks spent overseas working with a Tearfund partner. There is however a great deal more to this whole experience both before and after the trip, which Transform and Tearfund view as being vitally important.

The following guide is there to serve both as a reminder of when these events are taking place but also to give you some idea of the purpose of the event.

All of the following events are inclusive in the cost of the programme.

The 2009 two week programme timeline:

Applications for the 2009 programme are open; the application deadline is 30th November 2008 for teams departing in April.

After you apply, Transform will write to you to let you know if you have a provisional place on a team. If you are offered a place on the programme it will be a provisional until succesful completion of the orientation and will include the name of the team and details of the orientation you will be required to attend.

21st - 22nd February 2009: Oakwood Youth Challenge Centre, near Bracknell. Orientation for the following teams: India:EHA and Zambia:JCM

More specific details about timings, content and purpose of the orientation will be sent to you after the application deadline.

This training event will be the first opportunity participants have to meet with their team and to begin the process of team building and gearing up for the trip together; team building is one of many important aspects to this training. The orientation will cover numerous subjects including 'What is poverty?' 'Cultural Awareness' 'Health and Safety' and an initial session on your country and project.

4th - 18th April 2009: The trip.

The teams will meet at their departure airport in plenty of time to meet each other and collect equipment. Your team leaders will receive a final briefing from a member of the Tranform team and will pass on any necessary information. You will then fly on to your project where you will be met at your destination airport by your host.
